Zhejiang becomes the province in China for highest minimum wage

Zhejiang, a province in eastern China, raised its minimum monthly wage from 1,100 yuan to 1,310 yuan on April 1 and surpassed the longtime leader Guangdong as the province with the highest minimum wage.
A total of 12 Chinese provinces and cities have adjusted their minimum wage levels since the beginning of the year, with the majority located in eastern regions. In addition, more than half of the 12 provinces and cities have increased their minimum wages by more than 20 percent, and Chongqing lifted its minimum wage by nearly 28 percent, the highest growth rate among the 12 areas.
Furthermore, eight provinces and cities in eastern China have all increased their minimum wages by more than 1,000 yuan. Experts said that the relatively developed eastern regions are China's important processing and export base, and thus have great demand for high-quality workforce. They have to increase salaries to attract qualified workers.
