Two workers killed in factory blast in Wenzhou,China

Updated:2011-04-26

Two people were killed when an oil tank exploded in a factory in east China's Zhejiang Province Monday morning, said local rescue authorities on Monday.

The explosion occurred at 11:05 a.m. at a factory owned by Yuanyi Steel Co., Ltd. in the city of Wenzhou, a coastal manufacturing hub, said rescuers.

An initial investigation showed that one man was filling the oil tank while another worker was welding nearby. Sparks from the worker's welding torch caused the tank to explode, said rescuers.

A fire resulting from the explosion was quickly put out. Police are still investigating the incident.
